Welcome!
Served by the Order of Carmelites, province of St. Elias, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish was founded in 1912 in Middletown, New York and is a part of the Archdiocese of New York.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Our primary mission is to follow Jesus Christ through Word and Sacrament, in the spirit of Mary and Elijah the prophet. We are a Eucharistic community whose lives center on liturgical worship and the celebration of the sacraments.  As a parish we strive to establish a close sense of community by encouraging and developing a sense of service to all God’s people through lay participation, accountable administration, consensus, and involvement in the local community.

See the EVENTS page for our many activities.

Liturgical Bits & Bytes:

Church Courtesy - THE TABERNACLE
Often in church we lack the simple signs of courtesy to one another that we would normally show to anyone anywhere. Here are some examples: When someone comes to sit in the row where we are, why make them climb over us instead of moving in? When we come to church why stand against the wall even when we are asked to take a seat? Why do we pass the Eucharist without some sign of reverence or respect? Either a bow or a genuflection would show the proper respect, demonstrate faith in the presence of the Lord, and be a sign of reverence for the real presence of Jesus in the tabernacle.

LAMB OF GOD -

This is a litany that is sung during the breaking of the bread. In the early church, the breaking of the bread could be lengthy as all the bread was broken, so this litany could expand to be sung throughout this action. As communions became less frequent and the bread became individual unleavened hosts instead of bread broken from one leavened loaf, the Lamb of God (Agnus Dei) was shortened to three repetitions. Because some churches once again use bread that needs to be broken, the litany is once again written so it can be expanded to fit the action.

Parish Center: Built in 2005 with a full kitchen and tri-sectioned area, the center serves the community for meetings, receptions, bingo games, senior luncheons, conference location, dinner dances, and family faith events.    The Center is also available for rent. Call the office for contract information (343-4121).
